Radio is the new rock 'n' roll

Or it's the new killer app for the internet! for me at least. Have been listening to lots of BBC radio shows over the internet recently Pirate Sessions which plays lots of grime (and is a nice messy, ravey type radio show with lots of talking over each other, klaxon/rewind noises). The presenter is DJ Cameo. Listen to last week's show (with Aftershock filling in for Cameo), tons of brilliant songs, for example 3:09 in - Sway - Downloading "I walk into this internet caf, 'Has anybody seen K-K-Kazaaa?' but everybody looks at me b-b-b-izarre" The song ends with the shout out "For all you people behind the computers......keep on masterbating". For more grime go to Rinse FM where you can download some of the shows as long mp3s. These are even more messy with lots of MCing by Roll Deep (Dizzee Rascal's crew), Wiley, & Plasticman (well he makes the sounds rather than MCs). As pointed out by lots of people the radio is a good format for this music rather than compilations like Run the Road (which is really good but lacks some of the excitement you get hearing it all mixed up on the radio).

Also listening to the One World shows. These are the shows that replaces Peelie's slot with different presenters on each of the 3 nights. Huw Stephens on Tue does a lot of new indie rock, some hip-hop and electronica with very good sessions. Ras Kwame plays signed and unsigned British urban music (grime, hip-hop, r 'n' b etc.) Again the sessions are excellent. Rob Da Bank does the Thurs night which is more laid back but his weekend show The Blue Room is better. It goes out between 5 and 7 am and is a sort of wind down show for those who have been up all night. It has features such as 'Is it cheese?' where you vote whether a song, e.g. Pat Methany and David Bowie's 'This is not America', is it a Balaeric classic or cheese? Don't forget Andy Kershaw's program which has fantastic sessions.

Further afield there is WFMU, a brilliant station in New Jersey that I've only listened to a few times but is very ecletic. I can't get RTE Radio to work so far. I know there are all these media players for playing your mp3s, ripped DVDs etc from your pc thru your tv/audio but what would be better (for me anyway) is a piece of audio equip that you stuck a broadband connection into that would then play internet radio.

I haven't even got around to trying Audioscrobbler's last.fm
