Loved The Curious Incident of The Dog in The Night-time. In addition to all its other virtues, it has probably the best final sentence since Birdsong -- something I'd have expected, in retrospect, to see more made of in the reviews. And in addition to that virtue, it has the virtue of knowing how good the last sentence is and deliberately including a somewhat unnecessary appendix simply so you won't read the last sentence by accident. That's smart squared (which is greater than 0.5 smart for all integer values of smart).
