Did you watch the Eurovision, then? Katharine and Andrew came around (okay, stayed around after watching DVDs), and we saw everything from entry five on. Some of the costume changes were brilliant, and one of the acts had a "DJ" who was playing 3-foot wide records. The UK, it would have to be said, earned every one of it's nul points.

But t.A.T.u., despite excellent gamesmanship beforehand (like one of them stalking the girl from Jemini, and the question from their management as to whether they had to be wearing clothes for the performance), just didn't give it welly on the night.

Now it all comes out, when we should have been out looking at the Jimmy Cake. The t.A.T.u. song was good. I didn't know about the stalking. And the Latvians really getting into their booing everytime those Ruskies got any points (long may the spirit of the Eurovision continue - Ireland got 12 points from the UK - I wonder did loads of Irish over in the UK phone in for Mickey Jo). Did you vote? There was a split in the house over Turkey vs Russia. Are the phone votes now how a countires votes are allocated or is there a jury as well somewhere?

The winning song was ok, did you see the mental Austrian entry as well who somehow got loads of points.

What dvds did you watch anyway? We got a DVD player last week but this feeling obliged to watch every feature means 4+ hrs per film. It will not last. So far The Matrix, 28 Days Later, My Fari Lady and The Wickerman, all good. 28 Days Later had the most effect since it was late at night, much locking of doors and so on afterwards.....

I missed the Austrian, but got the Poles.

I was surprised that the Latvians gave a load of points to the Russians after all.

Some of the voting was juries and some was phone/internet. I get the impression that t.A.T.u. won the non-jury side of the competition.

We watched anime. Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away. The first one's good, but not as good as I remembered, and the second one's brilliant.

They were showing trailers for 28 Days Later when I was over in the states at the start of last month.

Must see My Fair Lady and The Wickerman, though I have had the last one on VHS from Simon for a while now.

Now I want to listen to some Pulp.

The Pulp news mailing list shut down last week or the week before. All poignant and end of era. Have sent off money for a t-shirt before they are all gone....

28 Days Later does have a bad plot move in the final third. The hand of Alex Garland is to blame, but it's ok otherwise (despite digital video) and and you can't beat your bit of apopcalyse and infected humans running around....

My Fair Lady is brilliant despite the misogynistic undercurrents in some of the script and lyrics (Lerner to blame there). You will relaise you know most of the songs

!!! I've been living in denial for ages. Is it really the end? Oh well, out on a high note. After writing the above, I went through my bookmarks idly and settled on Tom Ewing's best 100 singles of the nineties, so then I had to go listen to Common People four times in a row, and now I'm listening to I Love Life.

I am never going to watch 28 Days Later because I'm a big jessie.

I don't know if it is the end forever for Pulp. They could easily make an album in 4/5 years - is there any precedent for disbanding and coming back not too many years later to make a decent album? e.g. teh Go Betweens fucked off for a few years and supposedly have a fine album.

and Wire's latest is supposed to be rocking (the eps that make up part of it certainly are).

Gemma from Jemini admits the t.A.T.u stalking story was fake and just to get them a bit of publicity. source popbitch so you never know about this authenticity.

Note protective feelings towards t.A.T.u
